Paris – the city that never loses its charm, no matter how many times you visit. It’s a place where every corner feels like a postcard, and each moment has a touch of magic.

Paris was the first international trip I ever took. I was only 9 years old, but I remember it like it was yesterday. I fell in love with the culture, art, clothes, food, and people! I’ve been lucky enough to roam these streets several times as an adult, and let me tell you, Paris has a special place in my heart.

So, if you’re ready to spend the perfect day in the City of Light, follow along (this will be a long day, but if you only have 24 hours this itinerary is worth it!).

I’ve got you covered from sunrise to well after sunset.

6:30 AM – Early Morning Start at a Parisian Café

There’s something truly special about Paris in the early morning. The city is just waking up, the air is crisp, and the scent of freshly baked croissants wafts through the air. Start your day like a true Parisian—at a cozy sidewalk café.

Order a croissant and a coffee, and take a moment to soak it all in. One of my favorite activities while in Paris is people watching! It’s the perfect way to start your day and take in the city.

8:00 AM – A Stroll Through the Historic Marais District

After breakfast, head over to the Marais district. This neighborhood is one of Paris’s best-kept secrets, and it’s brimming with history, charm, and character. The Marais is centrally located, it spreads across parts of the 3rd and 4th arrondissements on the Rive Droite, so you can easily walk there from many popular areas in Paris.

Wander through its narrow, cobblestone streets, and you’ll stumble upon hidden gems at every turn—boutique shops, art galleries, and quaint little cafés. The Marais is where old-world Paris meets modern-day, and it’s a must-see!

9 AM – Visit to Notre-Dame Cathedral

No trip to Paris is complete without a visit to Notre-Dame Cathedral! It truly is breathtaking when you see it in person. Since the Marais is close to Notre-Dame (about a 15-20 minute walk), it allows you to explore the district and reach the cathedral when it opens to the public.

Just standing in front of Notre-Dame is enough to leave you amazed. The details of this cathedral are incredible. The inside is temporarily closed for repairs but is scheduled to be open to the public again in December 2024. Once it reopens, I’d recommend doing the climb to the top if you’re up for a little adventure. It’s a bit of a workout, but once you’re up there, the view will take your breath away in the best way possible.

You’ll be looking out over all of Paris, and it’s a moment you won’t forget. The cost to climb the towers is usually around €10 to €15, and it’s totally worth it.

10 AM – Mid-Morning Walk Along the Seine River

By now, you’re probably ready to see more of the city! I recommend taking a walk to the Seine River. Walking along the riverbanks is one of those iconic Paris experiences that you can’t miss. The views are spectacular, and the vibe is peaceful.

As you stroll along the Seine, take a moment to check out the little green bookstalls that line the river. These are the famous bouquinistes, and they’re filled with old books, vintage prints, and all sorts of unique finds. You might just come across a special keepsake to bring home—a little piece of Paris to remember your trip by.

10:45 AM – The Louvre Museum!

Next up, it’s time to dive into some art and culture at the iconic Louvre Museum. Home to some of the world’s most famous masterpieces (hello, Mona Lisa!), the Louvre is an absolute must-visit. The museum is massive, so pick a few highlights and spend some quality time with the art. (Unfortunately, since we only have 24 hours we can’t spend all day here)

The Louvre is just a short walk from the Seine, about 10-15 minutes. Arriving at 12 PM is realistic, but you might want to allocate a bit more time at the Louvre, especially if you’re keen on seeing the major highlights. It’s easy to get lost in the beauty of it all. Plus, I recommend getting a ticket beforehand to save you waiting time!

12:30 PM – Lunch at a Traditional Parisian Bistro

After all that walking, you’ve earned yourself a delicious lunch! Find a traditional Parisian bistro and settle in for a meal. French people take lunch very seriously! Prepare to spend about two hours eating and relaxing! There are many bistros near the Louvre, so finding a spot won’t be hard. Here are a few options to consider:

Le Fumoir: Just steps from the Louvre, Le Fumoir offers a cozy and stylish setting with a menu full of French classics. It’s perfect for a relaxed lunch, and their wine list is excellent. Try their duck confit or a fresh baguette with creamy cheese.

Café Marly: Located right in the Louvre’s courtyard, Café Marly offers stunning views of the museum’s architecture while you dine. The menu features classic French dishes like escargot and steak frites. It’s a bit on the pricier side, but the experience is worth it.

Bistrot Richelieu: A charming and more budget-friendly option, Bistrot Richelieu serves up hearty French dishes in a laid-back atmosphere. Their coq au vin is a must-try, and the service is warm and welcoming.

Chez Claude: A hidden gem not too far from the Louvre, Chez Claude offers a mix of traditional and modern French cuisine. The ambiance is cozy and unpretentious, making it a great spot to enjoy a simple but delicious baguette sandwich or a light salad.

Whatever you choose, this is your chance to indulge in some classic French cuisine—think coq au vin, escargot, or a simple but tasty baguette. And of course, don’t forget the wine! A glass of Bordeaux pairs perfectly with just about anything on the menu.

2:30 PM – Afternoon Stroll Through the Tuileries Garden

After lunch, take a relaxing stroll through the Tuileries Garden! This beautiful green space is the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy the afternoon and it is completely free to enter.

Find a bench by one of the fountains, or simply wander among the sculptures and flowerbeds. The Tuileries Garden is right next to the Louvre, so this timing is spot-on. It’s a lovely place to take a breather and soak up the Parisian air.

4:00 PM – Visit to Musée de l’Orangerie

For a dose of impressionist art, head to the Musée de l’Orangerie. This smaller museum is home to Monet’s famous Water Lilies, and seeing them in person is a truly magical experience.

The Orangerie is located at the western end of the Tuileries Garden, so it’s close by. Tickets are around 12,50 euros and I would recommend buying them in advance! The museum also houses a fantastic collection of impressionist and post-impressionist works, so take your time and enjoy the art that Paris has to offer.

6:00 PM – Shopping on the Champs-Élysées

As evening approaches, it’s time to hit the Champs-Élysées for a bit of shopping. From the Orangerie, you can walk to the Champs-Élysées in about 15-20 minutes.

This world-famous avenue is lined with luxury boutiques, flagship stores, and plenty of opportunities for people-watching. Whether you’re splurging on a designer item or just window shopping, the energy of the Champs-Élysées is undeniable.

You’ll find iconic shops like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Cartier. For something more accessible, there’s Sephora, one of the largest beauty stores in Paris, and L’Occitane.

7:30 PM – Dinner

After a day of exploring, it’s time for dinner! Paris is known for its delicious food, but you don’t have to break the bank to enjoy a great meal.

Here are a few dinner options that are affordable:

Hank Burger (Vegan Option): If you’re looking for a vegan option, Hank Burger (my favorite!!) in the Marais is a fantastic choice. This cozy spot serves delicious vegan burgers that even meat-eaters will love. The menu is simple, the ingredients are fresh, and the prices are great for an affordable dinner.

Le Petit Marché: Nestled in the Marais district, Le Petit Marché offers a cozy atmosphere with a menu that blends French classics with Asian influences. The prices are reasonable, and the food is consistently good, making it a favorite among locals.

Les Philosophes: Also located in the Marais, this bustling bistro serves up traditional French fare in a lively setting. The outdoor seating is perfect for people-watching, and the prices are very wallet-friendly. Try the duck confit—it’s a standout!

Bouillon Pigalle: For a truly Parisian experience that won’t hurt your wallet, head to Bouillon Pigalle. This large, lively brasserie serves classic French dishes at incredibly affordable prices. The atmosphere is vibrant, and it’s a great spot to experience traditional French cuisine without the high-end price tag.

9:00 PM – Evening at the Eiffel Tower

You can’t go to Paris and not see the Eiffel Tower. Whenever I’m there or have friends visiting, I always make sure to bring them here. It’s even more special at nighttime!

As night falls, the Eiffel Tower lights up and turns into a sparkling beacon against the dark sky. Whether you take the elevator to the top, which costs around €18 to €28 depending on how high you go, or just soak in the view from below, it’s a moment you’ll always remember.

10:30 PM – Drinks at a Rooftop Bar

End your perfect day in Paris with drinks at one of the city’s amazing rooftop bars! Most of the bars listed are within a short drive or metro ride from the Eiffel Tower.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Terrass’’ Hotel Rooftop Bar: Perched atop the Terrass’’ Hotel in Montmartre, this bar provides breathtaking views of the Eiffel Tower and the city skyline. The atmosphere is chic and romantic, perfect for ending your day in Paris.

Le Georges: Located on the rooftop of the Centre Pompidou, Le Georges offers panoramic views of Paris’s most iconic landmarks. The modern, artistic setting makes it a unique spot to sip on a cocktail while taking in the city lights.

Bar 8 at Mandarin Oriental: For a more upscale experience, Bar 8 at the Mandarin Oriental hotel is a luxurious spot with a stylish outdoor terrace. The bar’s sophisticated atmosphere and exceptional cocktails make it a top choice for a classy night out.

Le Rooftop at The Peninsula Paris: If you’re looking for a truly luxurious experience, Le Rooftop at The Peninsula Paris offers one of the most stunning views in the city. You can see the Eiffel Tower, the Seine, and other iconic landmarks while enjoying a beautifully crafted cocktail.

La Terrasse at Hotel Raphael: This hidden gem offers a quiet and elegant setting with stunning views of the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower. The rooftop garden and cozy ambiance make it a perfect spot for a relaxed evening drink.
