4 Best Spring Activities in New York City
It’s almost spring in New York City! Arguably, the best time to be in the city. As someone who was born and raised here, I love the springtime! No more hibernating through the cold winter months.
The flowers start blooming, the days get longer, the weather isn’t too hot, and everyone is excited to spend time outside (not freezing).
In this blog, I’ll share four of my favorite springtime activities to do in New York City!
Exploring Central Park
Central Park is blooming during the springtime. It’s perfect to take a stroll, watch the flowers bloom, have a picnic with friends or loved ones, and explore the city from uptown all the way to midtown. It’s great for a Saturday morning stroll before going out to brunch.
Popular spots to visit in Central Park are Bethesda Terrace, The Ramble, and the Conservatory Garden. Enjoy the pretzel stands and spend time enjoying the best greenery in the city!
Rooftop Bars
New Yorkers love eating outdoors and drinking on rooftops! Spring is when we all flock outside to people-watch, gossip, and enjoy the bustle of the city. Since the pandemic, outdoor dining has become very popular and is here to stay!
Some great rooftop bars:
- LoHi (Williamsburg)
- Lost in Paradise (Long Island City)
- Bella Union (Manhattan)
Spring Festivals and Street Fairs
Growing up in the city, I loved attending all of the street fairs and spring festivals! You can go to get great local food, buy local handmade shops, and play games. One of my favorites is Smorgasburg, which has locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and Green Point Terminal Market, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, where you can find local shops and food vendors.
Picnicking in Prospect Park
Spending the afternoon in Prospect Park is one of my favorite activities to do in the springtime. Head to the Farmer’s Market, open from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm and grab a fresh loaf of bread, amazing cheese, and local honey, plus some wine or apple cider. Then walk over to the park and spend the afternoon having a picnic!
Final Thoughts
There’s so much to do in New York City, that these are only a small fraction of what you can experience in the springtime. I encourage you to explore and enjoy the city’s many different offerings. Don’t worry if you can’t get through everything, spend the day enjoying what you can and you can always come back to the Big Apple!
